Death on the Nile – fun but a lot less so than Murder on the Orient Express

OT: Death on the Nile

I really enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express and was looking forward to Death on the Nile. I have read neither of the novels the movies are based on (or any Agatha Christie novel, to be honest) so I got to not only enjoy the actors‘ performances and the lovely visuals of the movie but also the mystery and I had hoped for the same enjoyment with Death on the Nile. Unfortunately that was not what I got.

Sadly not as strong as it’s predecessor with a lot of bad CGI und a weaker plot but if you enjoy murder mysteries, Branagh’s Poirot is still fun to watch!

My brother, who predicted the murderer five seconds into the movie (I concurred, we were right)

Obviously, Branagh’s Poirot is, once again, brilliant and annoying at the same time and I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Bateman’s Bouc but was underwhelmed by some of the other actors though less so because of their skills and more thanks to the far weaker plot. Plus the at points truly horrid CGI did not do them any favours either. Still, an enjoyable and entertaining movie, even though Death on the Nile feels a lot cheaper and sloppier than Murder on the Orient Express. But it works fine as an evening’s entertainment.
